A long tradition of martial arts

Tenshinsho-den Katori Shinto-ryu - is a japanese martial art school established more then 550 years ago, and is one of the oldest and most respected sword fighting school in Japan.

Katori school is the actual predecessor of many other Japanese martial arts and martial arts schools.

Katori school teaches a very broad fighting method that includes the use of many weapons, in contrast to modern methods such as Kendo or Iaido, which concentrate on a specific field of work. The main emphasis of the school is sword techniques. A wide variety of other weapons are taught as part of the curriculum, but the sword remains the focus of the curriculum.

Annual training trip to Japan

Every year, we travel to Japan to practice Katori Shinto Ryu in its birthplace. This trip is a great opportunity to learn for our school headmaster and to train with practitioners from all over the world.

Advanced combative training

A typical training session includes individual sword drawing practice, using metal swords, followed by pair practice using wooden weapons.

Practicing in pairs simulates a close-range samurai duel situations where the fighters wear heavy armor. The practice focuses on precisely hitting known weak-points in the traditional Japanese armor, and requires precision and control while maintaining the safety of the trainees.

The school syllabus is gradual and broad, allowing the student to develop accuracy, speed, technique and fighting spirit.

Katori training is suitable for both beginners and experienced students. Most of our students are experienced martial-artists.
